MUSIC OF THE MONTH

ALBUM OF THE MONTH: Rare by Selena Gomez

SONG OF THE MONTH: Graduation (Friends Forever) by Vitamin C

Okay so I've been a BIG fan of Sel G since elementary school. I think I was in 4th grade when Wizard's of Waverly Place was on Disney Channel? I remember when her music videos would be the commercials, like when she had the song "Falling Down" with her band and they were called Selena Gomez and The Scene. I went to her Revival album tour in 2015 or 2016 with one of my best friends since high school, Kori in New York and had the time of my life. Anyways yes, see, big fan! I was definitely looking forward to the new album when she first released "Lose You To Love Me", and then she came out with "Look At Her Now" which I thought the music video to was so dope. Definitely had the dance stuck in my head for a few days. "Rare" has 100% been an album I've listened to from start to finish multiple days in a row and I'm not afraid to admit it. Every song is one I can sing and/or dance along to.

When I was in 6th grade, at the end of the year my class had an elementary school graduation which our entire class of students sang a few songs. I've always had a pretty distinct memory of singing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye because I remember how the girls and boys stood at opposite sides and sang separate lines to the each other. I've loved that song for the last 10 years. Recently I had my phone playing music from a Spotify playlist and rediscovered another 6th grade graduation song which of course is called "Graduation (Friends Forever)" by Vitamin C. It took all of 5 seconds for me to remember the song as if it wasn't so long ago that I had first heard of it. It's funny how much I liked the song nowadays, because back then I remember all of my class (myself included) thought it was too old and none of us knew it. I think the song originally came out in 1999 if I'm not mistaken. It's 2020, and it's still good; in fact better than when I had first known of it.
